Our wedding was at a Tuscan inspired country club in the hills of Montverde, FL. The view transported you out of FL and into a Tuscan/Napa type location with rolling hills and vineyards. The atmosphere was elegant, warm and inviting and our decor was burlap and lace vintage with eclectic table settings and decor. We captured our love and “us” by having focal points such as our parents and grandparents wedding photos on display, hand making our guest signing tree, and having some of our favorite desserts to share with guests.  Every detail was personal down to my hand stitched cathedral length veil sewn by my mother and now mother-in-law together and made from the lace on my mother’s wedding dress and veil.

Our whole day was beyond amazing so its hard to pick just a few moments that stood out to us because everything went so perfectly. Some of our favorite parts of the day were relaxing with our bridal party and parents while getting ready. We had the whole day to lounge in our lady and gentlemen locker rooms, complete with lunch, celebratory champagne and spending time with some of the people closest to us. Our other special moments were the seeing our parents for the first time all dressed in our suit and gown and getting to take photo opportunities to capture those moments. Our first look session was also very special to us because it gave us time to spend together without the hustle and bustle of the day distracting us from the importance of being with each other and allowed us a moment to savor what the day was all about… Celebrating our love! Plus we have amazing pictures from those moments to cherish for a lifetime!!

Some of the things that were most important to us during the planning process were making sure that our own personality showed in our wedding decor and details. It was also important for us to have amazing photographers because after all is said and done that’s how to keep your memories of that day alive, through the photos!  Also, making sure above all, the wedding and everything leading up to it was as fun as possible, and ensuring that we took time to enjoy each moment of not just the wedding but the entire planning process by including our family in the planning and organizing of our special day!

When we first got engaged, we talked about the type and size of wedding that we wanted, the first thing we both said was “casual and laid back”.  The ideal wedding and reception for us was being able to relax, and have a nice time hanging out with friends and family.  With that picture in mind, my sister and I sat down and picked the colors, I knew I wanted a marigold/creamcicle orange (my favorite color) so Carol helped me pick colors that complimented that well without being too overwhelming (mint green and light tan).

After I settled on the location (La Entrada park) I focused on decor.  I will admit, Pinterest was a lifesaver. I found so many little details that I was able to personalize and make our own, that I never would have thought of on my own.  The best style to describe the decor for our wedding would be something like a mix of antique/rustic/picnic feel.  All the decor I either made myself by modge-podging dollar store jars and glasses to be different colors, or I found at local thrift and consignment stores in Corrales.

One of my favorite details was finding antique handkerchiefs to give to each bridesmaid to hold with their bouquets, this was special because it matched what I was using as my “Something Old” my great grandmothers handkerchief, which was attahced to my bouqet as well.  I had so much help from friends and family the weel of the wedding putting everything together, finishing last minute crafts projects that came up, it really made the whole process extra special and personalized.  There was not one thing the day of that I had not planned with friends or family, seeing it all in real life as opposed to just the picture I had in my head was way more awesome that I could ever have imagined it to be.

Our wedding was held at Bridal Veil Lake in Corbett, Oregon.   The venue was stunning on its own, so we only had to add a few touches to make it us.  Our style is modern and sophisticated with retro flares.  We chose cool colors of grey and navy with lots of crisp white accents and pops of yellow.  Graphic patterns, like chevron, were paired with powdery white flowers to achieve simplistic beauty.  My bride’s maids and I took basic white canvases and hand painted the decorative signs using free online fonts and navy and gray craft paint.

Peter’s childhood mentor performed the service and his younger, Ben, brought the audience to tears with his baritone rendition of “Book of Love.”  We wrote our own vows and exchanged family heirloom rings. My dress came from Bride’s for Breast Cancer dress fundraiser.  It had never been worn and fit like a glove.  I didn’t have to alter it at all – it was like it was meant to be mine.

My favorite thing to plan was the candy bar.  My sweet tooth is deadly and I had fun looking all over town for a mismatched grouping of apothecary jars.  I printed the candy names on store bought labels and hand decorated the candy bags using a rubber stamp and navy ink. The venue came with four canoes.  During the reception, all boarded vessels and paddled around the lake as the sun was setting.  The guests had a blast, even though one canoe almost capsized!

Our wedding day was perfect, though it wasn’t without a few hiccups, and we wish we could re-live it every year!

When Don (Baxter) and I figured out a warm weather wedding wasn’t in our cards, I was determined to find a super cool place to host us getting married! I never pictured myself getting married in a church, even though I grew up in one. Baxter and I looked around at some places that we thought were neat but everything was so expensive, especially in Nashville. I had a suggestion from a friend to check out The Tanglewood House as an option, and literally the second I walked in, I knew this is where I wanted to get married. The rustic vibe and the historic cabin just did me in! I loved the brick fireplaces that were throughout the house.

The morning of the wedding, my sister and I drove up to Clarksville really early. It was a gorgeous Sunday! The skies were clear and the sun was shining and that’s all I needed! My bridesmaids and I arrived early at the Tanglewood House so we could take our time getting ready. One of my favorite parts of the day was that morning. I felt so relaxed and pampered! Upstairs in the house was the bridal suite that had two bedrooms that were cutely decorated and another room with a massage chair, and huge mirrors perfect for doing hair and makeup. Karey (the wedding coordinator) brought us mimosas that morning, and a light lunch of delicious sandwiches and fruit later on. I could not have asked for a more perfect morning.

Another part of the wedding that was awesome, is that literally the minute I was walking down the stairs to walk down the isle my dad surprised me with a Skype call from my brother. He’s stationed in Japan right now, and was not able to make it to the wedding. Earlier that day we were having technical difficulties and weren’t able to talk much or get connected on Skype. I was so excited we got to see each other. My favorite part of the day was of course walking down the isle to Baxter. I walked down to Ben Rector’s ”White Dress,” which felt so perfect for us and our wedding. Bax and I chose not to see each other that day, so when the doors opened for my dad and I to walk down, it made it even more special to see my man smiling back at me. We wrote our own vows, which Baxter memorized and I did not, we had a close friend officiate the wedding. Everything about the wedding felt relaxed and personalized. I had friends tell me it was the “coolest” wedding they’d been to, and I would have to agree!

From the very beginning of planning the wedding, I told myself and Baxter that I didn’t want to stress about the little things, but I wanted the “feeling” of the wedding to be right. I wanted it to be simple, beautiful, and relaxed. The Tanglewood House inspired everything I wanted for the wedding, from the neutral colors, to the flowers, and the music. The music was very important to me! Music can say a lot, and really set the tone of things, so I chose my songs carefully. The dress I wore is nothing like I’d imagined I would wear, it was very detailed and sparkly. I had imagined I would wear something more simple. When I went dress shopping at the Bridal Warehouse, the girls at the shop had my bridal stylist pull a dress specifically for me, because they thought it would look good on me, and sure enough that’s the one I chose. It was beautiful!
