It’s no wonder that Greenery is the color of the year for 2017, it is always effortlessly beautiful! Never more so than in this coastal Maine inspired wedding from Lex Nelson Photography. This couple took so much care in personalizing every detail of their wedding day to give their guests a night to remember. The soft green color palette perfectly complements the seaside vibe, without being overly nautical. I love the lantern and greenery centerpieces and all the olive brand details!

We were engaged in November on an unseasonably warm night on the same beach in Maine Jeremy and his family enjoyed many summer vacations growing up. Just eight months later we chose to get married down the street at a historic 1900’s clubhouse overlooking the picturesque views emulating “the way life should be” Maine. With Jeremy’s mother’s recent passing and her love for everything Maine, we both always knew this would be the place we would get married. The day after our engagement, my mother came up from the basement with a box of nautical ornaments to be used as favors relaying that she had purchased them a few months ago not being able to pass them up. This then sparked the vision of our big day and with our love for everything summer, we decided on a rustic chic nautical theme to compliment the character and charm of the York Golf & Tennis clubhouse.

The day started in the charming bridal suite in the clubhouse where my bridesmaids matched in floral shortie pajamas and their GPS coordinate bracelets with each bridesmaid’s coordinates defined by the place I had the most memories with each of them. With plentiful champagne and colorful macaroons, it was the perfect way to kick off our big day.

I wore my Mom’s pearl bracelet as my something borrowed which was really special to both me and my Mom. It was nice to have jewelry incorporated that wasn’t all new! With my husband’s mother’s recent passing we wanted to incorporate something subtle so during dessert we included whoopie pies from her favorite bakery in Ogunquit.

I really loved the ceremony. We took time to choose readings, added a sand blending ceremony and wrote our own vows all standing underneath the beautiful birch arbor drenched in greenery. I think it is easy to get lost in the details and forgot about why you are getting married. I will never forget that feeling of walking down the aisle and standing next to my now husband. It is true when people say the day flashes by, but you just have to SOAK in every single second and try not to sweat the small stuff.

The most important part of the planning process was to create a day for our guests that was meaningful, genuine and of course FUN! We tried to focus on incorporating items that told our story. From the custom made programs designed by my bridesmaid listing fun facts about us to the signage including map backgrounds of where we met and where we got married, we wanted people to share our day with us! We also wanted to take advantage of the outdoor with the serene background and by having our ceremony and dinner on the wrap around porch, we feel like we were able to give our guests the feel of Maine and why we love it so much!

I have always had love for décor and even more a love for a bargain. I started to put together inspiration boards and organized each per room of the venue. This made it less overwhelming and kept things organized for the day of. I met with the local flower shop, a small boutique located less than a mile away from the venue and together we came up with the vision of greenery complimented by touches of white florals. Once we had our floral concept in place, this led to the inspiration to complete our centerpiece vision. Without it screaming nautical theme, we incorporated subtle nautical elements such as compass place card holders and driftwood. Both of these nautical elements complimented the main centerpiece gold lantern surrounded by touches of greenery.

The next focus was figuring out how to decorate the sizable farmhouse table where guests would get their first glimpse of our wedding. We wanted to put extra focus on this and make sure there were personal touches throughout. Luckily one of my bridesmaids is a graphic designer and helped bring our signage vision to life. With framed map backgrounds including Massachusetts where we met and Maine were we married, this complemented the nautical elements including a message in a bottle guest book, nautical ornament favors and a “Find Your Table” oversized driftwood board.

We love how how everyone reacted to the favors. It is so special to know that everyone will be hanging our ornaments on the trees come Christmas time and take them back to what was the most special day of our lives.
