Intimate Barn Wedding

Rain is supposed to be good luck at a wedding, but I’m pretty sure that it moving away just in time for the ceremony and then being left with a double rainbow is a lot luckier (and less of a head ache!) That’s what happened with today’s intimate barn wedding captured by Kaysha Weiner. I love how this couple really brought the outside inside with all the branch centerpieces. It is the perfect blend of natural rustic and chic elegance. It a really hard combination to pull off and you definitely wouldn’t guess this is a mostly DIY wedding.

For us our wedding was not only about celebrating our love to each other, but to also be able to share it closely with our families. Initially we fell in love with the property for it’s natural beauty and the ability to do our own decor, share meals and memories with loved ones. Doing your own setup can be a lot of work, but made the event that much more personal and rewarding. We had a vision of rustic elegance that would incorporate the restored barn with the natural surroundings, but have the feel of a formal event. In the end the warmth and intimacy of the indoor reception mixed seamlessly with the outdoor ceremony and truly left us with memories we will forever cherish.

I carried with me a handkerchief that was my grandfathers as well as a business card size copy of his marriage license that he carried in his wallet for the 62 years he was married to my grandmother. In addition I carried the purse my mom carried on her wedding day.

Picking a favorite moment is probably the hardest thing to do as our friends and family each left a special mark on our wedding day. A few moments that will always stand out would be, during the ceremony it threatened to rain and we could hear thunder in the background. It was such a beautiful moment hearing mother nature there with us.

Another favorite moment is when we took our personal photos in a corn field. Stealing away for a few minutes to be alone before the reception was so important and having such a wonderful photographer who we felt so comfortable with and consider a good friend was more than piece of mind but a necessity.

I’m sure like most couples we just wanted our wedding to be a reflection of us therefore choosing the location and our vendors was one of the most important parts. Through out the wedding planning process it became obvious to us that we wanted to do a lot of the work ourselves in order to make sure that our wedding truly reflected us and our vision. Although it was a lot of work, looking back each memory and photo is tied to another memory of friends and family helping in the set-up or tear down. These moments will forever be cherished along with the vows that we exchanged that day.
