Such an original idea!
Over the years, we spent a lot of time in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco -especially at Bix on Gold street. When it was time to get married we tried to find special places in Golden Gate Park, cool little chapels, and interesting rooftops downtown. In the end, we realized Gold Street alley, a street we passed everyday on our commute to work, and too often stopped at for a cocktail on our way home, was the place to wed. It is odd, maybe a bit to SF, but also charming in a way, and where we fell in love.
My favorite moment was exchanging our vows as we both cried and found ourselves again, for a brief moment, alone in the alley where we fell in love.
It was exceptionally fun and simple to plan. Many of our vendors were our talented friends, like Sixth Course, who make the most gorgeous chocolates and desserts. Our friends at Cigar Bar chose the menu, wine, cocktails, and all that other stuff people worry about. The food and dessert were perfect–the best part was we didn’t choose a thing. Our friends chose it for us.
We both love flowers, and when we met Svenja of Chesnut and Vine, her eye for styling gave our ideas life. She made the day a lot prettier! An hour with her, and a few months later there were flowers falling from ceilings, in the fountains– the ceremony and reception space looked absolutely amazing.
The fact that the result was perfect, while being perfectly simple, still astounds us. Good friends, great vendors, make all the difference.
