A Vintage Glam DIY Wedding
September 20, 2012Today’s wedding is filled to the brim with amazing vintage details! From the amazing handmade brooch bouquet to the vintage centerpieces, there are so many great ideas for the vintage bride. What detail are you loving?
The beautiful bride Ashton shares:
My now husband Matt and I got engaged July of 2011. We knew we didn’t want a long engagement, and because of family issues and timing, we decided that the following November would be a good time to take the plunge! We settled on November 20, 2011 and began planning right away. The vision for our wedding came through our personal styles. We both have always loved the vintage look (even before it was cool) and Matt knew of The Mayo Hotel in downtown Tulsa through his work in PR. In searching for a venue, it was the top of our list and when we went and toured it and found out that it was not only beautiful in 20′s art deco style, but they also helped in planning with our own in-house coordinator and a sort of “all-inclusive” type set-up which really appealed to us with our short time frame. We were sold!
My favorite parts of the day were hanging out with my bridesmaids and the women in my family all day. It’s not every day we all get together and enjoy time with each other, as nearly all involved were from out of town, so it was nice to talk while we got our hair done and visit in the bridal suite during down time. My other favorite part was, of course, when it was all over and I got to spend some alone time with my husband, reflecting on our day. That is THE best part! I also liked how both sides of my family were so involved in the process. My parents are divorced so to see both my mom and dad’s sides of the family involved in doing something just for me was touching.
Since it was such a short time period to plan and funds were low, everything else was somewhat budgeted. I have a very talented and creative family who organized the decor and the flowers. Much of the decor was hand-made and/or borrowed from both Matt and my family’s antique collections. So, I would say the most important things to us when planning were the budget and capturing our vintage style.
